This richly coloured Dark Chestnut Brown Alpaca fibre has a lovely drape and shine. It is ideal for doll artists that like to work with shorter bundles of hair to root with. It would work well also for those finer hairs around the front of the hairline and/or on the sides of the face; for eyebrows or eyelashes; even for combi hair styles. This shorter length may mean you wont need to cut your fibre bundle in half, and as it is already banded into smaller sections you will minimise loss from dividing.

I wash, sanitise and condition all my fibre multiple times to produce hair of the highest quality. Each bundle is brushed out several times to remove the shorter fibres. This means all the fibre is usable, from the tip right through to the cut end as the fibre under the band is also fully washed.

I band my fibre into smaller sections to create easy to handle bundles, this helps to reduce waste as you are not trying to separate hair from bigger bundles and losing half of it in the process. Alpaca fibres come in a variety of microns but I tend to prefer an average of 23-28 microns which is between kid and yearling Mohair. At this thickness, even if you end up with more than 1 hair in each hole it will not look ‘pluggy’, as each hair is a lot finer than yearling Mohair. Human hair is around 80microns so this will give you an idea of how much finer Alpaca is.
 
If you prefer to use Mohair for your main hair on a Reborn baby doll, you will find that Alpaca is the perfect option for those fine hairs around the hairline, for the eyelashes and eyebrows, and also for lanugo, those sweet wispy hairs some babies have on sections of their face.
